One late night, and the rest of the day stays free
Because the pickup window for Castillo San Miguel starts in the early evening rather than the afternoon, booking this tournament costs you almost nothing from the daylight hours of your Tenerife trip. A full day out elsewhere on the island — a drive up to Teide, a boat trip along the coast, or simply a long day at the beach — can comfortably run right up to late afternoon and still leave enough time to get back to your hotel, shower and change, and be ready and waiting for your pickup window without feeling rushed.
The three resort towns each have their own character
Los Cristianos keeps more of an older, working harbour-town feel than its neighbours, with a genuine fishing port sitting alongside the tourist marina and ferry terminal; Playa de las Américas is by some distance the liveliest of the three after dark, dense with restaurants, bars and nightlife aimed squarely at visitors; and Costa Adeje is generally the most upscale of the three, built around a long, well-kept seafront promenade that makes for a genuinely pleasant, unhurried evening walk on a night that isn't booked around a show. All three sit close enough together along the coast road to move between them easily by taxi or bus.
Whale and dolphin watching pairs naturally with the tournament
The stretch of Atlantic off this part of Tenerife's coast is known for resident pods of pilot whales alongside regular dolphin sightings, and boat trips out to see them run throughout the day from both Los Cristianos and the nearby Puerto Colón marina. Booking one of these trips for the morning or early afternoon of the same day you have Castillo San Miguel booked for the evening makes for a genuinely full, varied day on the island without either activity crowding into the other's time.
Teide is the other essential full-day trip
Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak and the centrepiece of Teide National Park, sits a straightforward drive inland and upward from any of the south-coast resorts, and makes a natural full-day pairing with an evening booking at the castle — you're typically back down at sea level with a comfortable margin of time to spare before an early-evening pickup, having spent the day in a landscape that looks almost nothing like the coastline you were on that morning.
Building a week around one loud, memorable night
Most visitors staying along this stretch of coast do best treating Castillo San Miguel as the single big, loud, planned-well-in-advance evening of their south-coast stay, and keeping the days on either side of it noticeably more relaxed — an easy beach day beforehand, a slow, late morning afterward to recover from the noise and the wine. It sits in a very different register from the rest of a typical Tenerife resort holiday, which is exactly why booking one specific night for it, rather than treating it as something to fit in if there's time, tends to be the approach past visitors recommend most.
